Opinions on active substances
The BPC supported the renewal of the active substances (both for PT8, wood preservation):
- Dazomet (a.k.a. Tetrahydro-3,5-dimethyl-1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thione)
for internal remedial treatment and protection of wood products against fungal decay.
It is not intended for use on wood that may come into contact with food, feed
and livestock. For professional use only. - IPBC (a.k.a. 3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate) to be used as a fungicide against wood-rotting fungi and wood-discolouring fungi (blue stain). The renewal dossier supports the use for Use class 2 and 3 for use in water-based and solvent-based formulations for industrial, professional, and non-professional use.
Opinions on Biocidal Product (families)
The BPC also supported Union authorisations for 4 biocidal product families (BPFs):
- Containing Propan-1-ol/Propan-2-ol for PTs 2 & 4 (for the disinfection of
hard non-porous surfaces and for glove disinfection); - Containing Propan-1-ol/Propan-2-ol for PTs 1, 2 & 4 by professional,
industrial and non-professional users; - Containing C(M)IT/MIT (3:1); Glutaral for PTs 2 & 4 for professional use for surface disinfection in industrial production areas with the following application methods: wiping, mopping, spraying, immersion and cleaning in place (CIP)
- Containing Glutaral for PTs 6, 11 & 12. The products are used in latexes, paints, washing fluids, and drilling fluids (PT6), in cooling systems and various fluids in the oil and gas industry (PT11) and in pulp & paper manufacturing processes, and for several fluids in the oil and gas industry (PT12).
And for a biocidal product:
- containing Hydrogen peroxide for PTs 2, 3 & 4.
Additional opinions
Additional opinions were adopted on:
- The post-authorisation data (24-month storage stability test) submitted to fulfill a UA requirement for a BPF containing Active chlorine released from sodium hypochlorite for PT 2.
- a request from the European Commission on to add the use as concentrated animal skin disinfectant (PT3; professional use) to the UA Chlorocresol based products – CID Lines NV. A use for which clarity on the MRL has now been provided.

The European Commission together with the EU Member States will take the final decisions based on BPC’s opinions in the Standing Committee on Biocidal Products.
